Yeah sounds brilliant..What did Culbertson say? 4 events, maybe 400-440 miles before it holed a piston... Excellent. better than the 2 trannies that made it less than a hundred miles each.. Huh? I'd heard about the Miata trannies, but that was no surprise to me and I was going to use a T5 regardless of which motor went in anyway. I hadn't heard anything about EcoBoost failures though. Self-righteous douche canoe |
Hey now, the ecoboost isn't that bad. The engine that died at Rocky had a hard life (6+ rallies, over 1500 miles of racing, transits, and commuting). It was a used junkyard engine that apparently came from a crash-test car. So start your theories as to why that engine was in a crash test car, maybe it didn't meet some spec during calibration and break in... who knows. It had a ton of blow by from the get go, but we ran it anyways. Then there was the issue with it being ran HOT. Like over 250F many many many times. Turns out that removing the hood allowed enough air flow to drop the temps 60F on stage (learned this at Idaho this year). The old 2.3 iron block engines were constantly overheating and dying as well (3 motors in a season). And those me-otter trannies made it 200 miles of stage before they died. Well only one died, the other was making some funny noises.... it was doing that from the get-go The mighty t5 is rocking strong though, but would recommend a larger clutch disk. The Focus ST disk and pressure plate will fit into the miata flywheel, and it's .5in larger in diameter. |

6 plus ---1500 miles..so over 250 miles racing per event. Hmmmmmm And I wonder how good ol "Haulin' Colin McCleery did about 45 rallies in his Xratty with a virtually bone stock Xratty turbo motor from the mid 90s to early 00ies.? Is it the engines? Or who is deciding what to do with them? John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Not all racing miles. Read the part just past the 1500+mi The longevity of the engines probably has to do with the loon behind the wheel. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/22/2016 01:10PM by Robert Culbertson. |

By not revving it, not advancing timing, and not cranking the boost. What was his speed factor? Grant Hughes |

Look it up lazy boy, wot da fuq. He did alright...considering...(among other things stock axle ratio and only barely OK struts and shocks) John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! He did alright, he was quick but he was never pushing the limits like Dave Clark has been doing lately. We could get into discussions of how mechanical component failures tend to follow exponential hazard rates. Though I suppose the exponential distribution is just a special case of the Weibull distribution which was developed by an amazingly smart Swede named Waloddi Weibull who you would probably find more interesting than the mathematics. He liked to break things and come up with the statistical distributions that best described and predicted failure. He also liked to blow shit up. Grant Hughes |

I've got this... make a hard top and rock it? the story: My Grandpa bought it off MG in 53 after they raced it at the local tracks in 51 and 52... he daily drove and ameture raced it till 76, then gave it to my uncle who did the same till 88, now it just sits in a barn. |

Statistical analysis or just fapping with casual reference to figures or records is all fappery with the analyst first establishing a base line of control.. Colin drove a LOT of events and had a LOT of FUN.. The new and improved Dave Clark is driving a fair number of events and is having, obviously, a LOT of fun... Assumptions about what they were thinking--ie 'pushing the limit" are frankly silly.. What "the limit"?
