And some are easy to get to and are already backed up ready to go at the flip of a switch, and whaddya know--if you have to change it it can be done in a service, so it sucks less. This is how a rally car is plumbed--especially in this day of LONG tows and high entries and short SS miles..TODAY.. put a little faggotty little brand X pump up your ass in a street car and pray that it works for all I care..But THIS---when you have time Eric... Thanks! Suppose I have to do an update now...
Well we Finished our first event. As far as how we actually did... back of the pack but at this point i'm not too concerned. out of 25 entered I do believe there were 4 dnfs and 7 cars off the road so i'm very happy I was able to drive it home at the end of the day. The conditions were tricky... well at least for someone doing there first event. The roads consisted of everything from dry gravel, to mud, to slushy snow, bit of ice and some big puddles. Showed up with non-studded street snow tires with 70-80% left on them and didn't really think about tires. Wasn't actually a terrible choice in my opinion. Not that I had much in the way of choice! The volvo was dead reliable and a ton of fun to drive. Only issue was a small amount of fuel in the trunk which was caused by me failing to have the hose going from the fill tube to a hole in the floor actually connected to the floor. 5 minutes with a drill and some rags to clean things up and that was sorted. It was a good thing the car was solid, because having had 4 hours of sleep in the last 100 hours of living/ getting ready for the rally meant I slept during the second service. Kinda funny... seeing everyone scurrying around and then me off to the side passed out in the service vehicle. The event was a blast, Keith M put on a really fun and well run event and must be thanked for this! Roads were good, seamed like all the volunteers knew what was up. Yea nothing to complain about... hell even the food at the end banquet was good! Look forward to running it next year!!!! Lots of work to do and lots of things to learn... need to do lots with my driving and work on how we do our notes. Going to make some changes to the car before the next event as well... particularly ditching the stock front suspension and getting the jvab stuff on there. Our result was nothing great but we were not terribly far off from the main group of 2wd guys. Over the season we will work on edging closer to them with each event! I didn't want this post to be too much on the car and more on the event/ driving/rallying but it must be said... thank you John V for all your parts and help. The car would not be what it is with out the parts you supply for reasonable and the help you have offered through more than a couple of your ideas. Can't wait for the next one!!! |

Started to get some noticeable fade on the hunter valley stages. Taking the car down from 150km/hr+ several times kinda cooked things! No biggie though. Front brakes really needed some fresh fluid. Just ran out of time before the event to change it.

In my "experience"/perspective...
'Fade' isn't fluid related... although boiling off fluid makes the pedal soft. (in a way that doesn't really return a firm pedal) Fade - to me - is when you still have a good pedal feel - of a 'hard' pedal' - and you just lose braking strength. If we agree on what we're calling 'fade,' then better pads, and either fresh rotors or machine what you have. (I'd go to new rather than having them cut. Good pads can be fairly aggressive on rotors) New fluid regularly is a good idea. Bleeding before every event is worth while. I've been in cars that needed bleeding at every service. (Combination of DOT3 fluid and overuse of LF But... take that all with a grain of salt Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/08/2016 01:11PM by ALS FTW. |

That is a bit of a guess and is based on gearing. I could be off a chunk as I never really bothered looking at the tach. Also only on the down hills would this of been possible! Going up was a very different matter. |
