Seeking a logged booked (or log bookable with a little effort) Saab 99 NA for Group 2.
Been wanting one for about 35 years now. I've owned two 99 before (LE and EMS) so sort of know what I'm getting into. Since they are pretty scarce in US I figure I better get looking now, if want to race it before my odo rolls over to triple digits. If anyone knows anyone who has a rally 99 now please let them know some nit-wit in Boston is on the hunt. Anyone know who the GRMS 99 was sold to? Thnx Toltec Rally Team "what would Steve Zissou do?" |

A real 900 would be 10 times easier to find and keep going---and its a better car. Still though keeping any 900 going today would be nuts...unless you are ready to spend around $6000 + lotsa dollah for airfreight to get the PARTS for a decent gearbox... That's nuts..But more nuts is thinking one can fake it without a proper box and diff and final drive...
So must it be a 99 or do you want to check Seattle Craigslist... John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |

Thanks John. I concur. All rally is nuts. Thinking Saab or Capri. Also contemplating a Class 5/1600 SCORE 'dub. So yes, nuts.
If I were consider 80s it would be an XRatty, but still stuck in the 70s for now... As Firesign Theater one said "were all bozos on this bus" Toltec Rally Team "what would Steve Zissou do?" |

That was my motto for a LONG time...and a good guide in life.. If I post up some recent--like 10 days ago results with 21 Historic cars, 36 RWD cars and 47 FWD cars and 37 other 2wd cars, (228 cars total) will you promise to look at the leading Historic car? Its a 70s car...and it was often just swapping seconds with the best 2wd cars like: http://www.raceconsulting.com/rally/resultat/onss.jsp?tavling=1048&urval=granskad.deltar.ejutesluten.ejdebutant.harsstid1&inkludera=tavlingsklass&sortering=tidss1&rubrik=On%20SS%201 Here's final for Historic: http://www.raceconsulting.com/rally/resultat/resultat.jsp?tavling=1048&urval=granskad.deltar.tavlingsklass27497&rubrik=Klassresultat&underrubrik=Klass%204%20Supercupen%20(Grp.%20H%20Classic%20/%20App.%20K) That's the thing..Most 70s cars that were any good kept getting made into the mid 80s in one form or the other..99 morphed into 900 in 79, then 90 in early 80s, Capri kept going till 1986, the 240 Volvo kept going till 1993--from 1975 so is that a 70s car? most of it was same as 140, made in late 60s... Sure it is. Look at the results.. and just for fun <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Q74DBRM3teg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Hard enough finding a 99 let alone a caged one. Gearbox solution imo is rwd conversion. Mid/late 90's 900 b204 (or b234 from 2.3L 9000) engine/block purportedly good for 500hp on stock internals and not too hard to find in pull it yourself yards or whole parts car for cheap. Open source ecu tuning. T5 bell housings that bolt up out there as well as gearboxes in Europe that bolt up. Good answer to the Ford eco whatever finally got on the turbo train like thirty er forty someth'n years later and gonna hype n market it super hard now in Ford fashion loving crowd. Hard part is all the fab work such as tunnel, rear suspension, and expense of fia fuel cell. Stuff that makes me think about putting setup in another already rwd chassis instead |

Oh ferfuckssake...Everything in the world is relative and you go from talking about a VERY STRONG car and VERY strong block and crank and then go to the diametric opposite... Endless for 30 years problems as yet unsolved for: engine mounts, blowing up the inside of outer CVs, shearing off the splined part of outer CVs, bending rear spindles, bending rear beam---and very expensive gearbox parts...and 12.5 hrs to R&R the box and replace anything... And who wears Dankso? Båstad trädojor ska det vara, om ni är snäll. Sure seems like we make a lot of problems by ourselves.. Yup! Been in touch with the owner, its project. An 18 month project... Only about half way there. If it was on east coast or running I'd be much more excited. But still an option. Might check out when I'm in LA next month. Agreed, I'm all over the place... Just got a boner for '73 Capri RS in EU. Only 53,000 euro....

have you poked around the saabrally forums? http://www.saabrally.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=11
There are a couple Log booked 900's somewhere on the Maine coast and a 99 hidden away somewhere in PA but who knows if they are for sale. Shells were getting tough to find out here even 10 years ago, 900's a little better, still seem to be plenty 240's for some reason. Someone will chime in and say to head west and get something clean. -KTurner Stomp down on the exhilarator and hold on to the wheel. |

The point was that the 96 was a lot better base platform for him to start with than a 99 or 900. And this one is in beautiful shape.
Better to have a useless post, than to be useless. The only thing you are good for, is for moving target practice. Thankfully, with that gimpy legged gait, its slow movement. |
