WTB: Toyota 7.5" rear end
April 09, 2011 04:28PM
The rear end of my car has issues. Diffs for the H190 are drying up faster than Dodge Colts, and there's something very screwy with mine anyway. At this point, I think it would just be smarter to throw in a Toyota rear end, because at least you can get parts still. The current diff is about to explode for some unknown reason, and there's something causing both wheels to wobble; one side more than another, but both nonetheless. That problem could contribute to the self-destructing diff, but I'm not so sure.

Anyway. If you or someone you know has one of these type rear ends around (preferably with discs, and they must have the 4x114.3 pattern), please let me know.

Make me a $$$ offer, and I'll see what I can do depending upon it's condition and what's included. It'd have to be shipped, though...

Junk, Ben. The half shafts are a whopping 22mm in diameter tops. The axle tube bend, the brakes are miniscule, disc brake versions rare, and then what are you going to use for final drive ratio? 3.9?

Adam Crane, who just left 10 minutes ago is converting his car to 5 on 4.25"
from 4 on 4.5"
His halfshafts are ginormousularly huge at 29mm.

Betcha he'd make ya a killer deal.
Then instead of some Toiletta 7.5", you just pull a 240 Volvo axle, slide in these and pooof! you have Soooper Bitchin rear discs and a caliper with the desirable 38mm pistons--which fir under 14" wheels.
Dana 30 companion flange and u-joint are common as hell--the u-joints are big and manly.

Volvo's Dana 30 should be the default axle for old Japonaise cars.

if you went the volvo route, Ben, the pick-n-pull on 33rd down here had a 4-door 240 that was seemingly untouched when I was there a month ago. Doesn't show up on their inventory anymore though...

Why do you want the 7.5" instead of the much better 8"?

John, do you mean that Adam has the 4x4.5 bolt pattern on the one he's getting rid of? I would be immensely interested!

I could be mistaken, but I don't think there's an 8" out there that has axleshafts that fit my 4x4.5/114.3 bolt pattern. I'm hell bent against converting to any other pattern, because I'm really tired of buying and trying to sell wheels. Plus, I love my minilite replicas too much to get rid of them.

Yes he has on his back axle 4 on 4.5" on Volvo flanges I turned down to be same as Volvo...part of the same upgrade everything which means Toyota 8" into Volvos, and Volvo Dana 30 into smaller Jap cars.

He and his ex-service guy Dustin are going to Volvo FRONTS ---which we finished yesterday and they get a) BIG bearings, b) BIG fat discs c) 4 piston calipers and d) won't have to mod the rear flange and bolt circle---just shove the whole Volvo axle in as is.

Volvos weigh a shit-ton more and the Swedes being Swedes don't fawk around with brakes....so their stock brakes---under 14" mind you----are much stronger/bigger/better.
Look at this to help you think:
4.88 DANA 30 RING AND PINION GEAR SET
SKU: D30-4.88
High performance Ring & Pinion gear set for Dana Spicer 30 in a 4.88 ratio.

The RX-7 rears that have his bolt pattern are 26mm shafts, and you can find 4.78 gears super easy (last set I got = $40), but the housings ARE flimsy, enough that I'm probably going to be switching to Toyota (or - gack - Ford 8.8) when I run out of unbent housings.

And they're expensive because everybody wants them. I turned down an offer for $250 just for the axle shafts, no housing or pumpkin or brakes...

So yeah, anyone know how to get a hold of Adam? The sooner I can find out if he wants to deal, the better. And thanks for keying me in on his swap, John.

Now if it was me who saw this the first thing I would have done is picked up the phone and called. Of course I have his phone number. Call, and i'll give you it.
For that matter I would have already called except i spent hours fighting to make this HP printer work---and failed.

dustin has a welded disc brake rear end for the AE86 ready to go too. $500

our plan is to run Dustin on the 14" wheels for the first event, then do the fab work to get the full Volvo.
so the volvo to toyota rear axles wouldn't be availible until mid April.

my email is the username here at gmail.com
i would consider selling/renting you the drill jig that I used too.
