Should deduct $800 for needing to douse the things in bleach to get the mildew off of them.
But no sunroof is worth a couple hundred in bodywork you don't have to do, and cranky windows are lighter. You could probably also get $150-200 out of that Rapidough intercooler (that's at least what it looks like it may be from the small fisheye photo). I should probably sell those manual window regulators I have in the cellar. |

Say Andrew, do you remember where you got them? Those weren't the one's off that guy Mossy's car out at Rt128 Volunteers of America place, now were they? Maybe you could do a deal for the poor schmuck who slaved over a hot drill and pried them out........{where's the violins?} John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! They were out at 128...but I bludgeoned them out myself with a Craftsman screwdriver and a hammer (didn't bring a drill). You put me on to them, but I got them, you weren't even there that day!
I already have a PM about them, they're the last of the parts for my aborted XR rally car project. For some reason I don't quite want to part with them, but should really do something with them other than bash my shins against them every time I go by them in the cellar. |

OK I'll take them since it was all my fault you barked you shins on them, I fell bad. Its the least I could do after causing all the problems I cuased by finding them for you. I'll even pay shipping. Who would be PMing you about manual window winders? Hey you know who we (collectively) need to strangle? Graminal. When he was up in Luleå by the Arctic cirkel he told me a couple of times ---he was there over a year---- "wow, nobody does electric winders and there's even 3 door cars, wow" Me:" Graham get out there with a battery drill and harvest window winders or DON'T COME BACK TO FORTRESS AMERICA!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRR!!!!!" I guess he thought he'd be there forever.. And I warned him about fickle Swedish women!!! I told him to chase Finnish girls instead, but did he listen? Donate them to a fellow Xratty guy who will use them on an actual rally car. I may know someone that fits that description... |

Wait I thought you like the 'lectric? Well I already have crank windows in my Xratty, just a few things and maybe we could dare call it a rally car. Pooor me. I now have three Sleazattle XRatty people who want them! Maybe I'll just ship them to JVAB (one of the three) and let you fight over them and send me beer money (or beer). But JV is crafty and would probably have them installed in his car before anybody else could get over there (or he'll just hide them in the shop, which would be even more effective).
Maybe I'll disassemble them and ship parts to each of you! Do I go for the first responder, the guy who found them for me, or the one who is now about to embark on his reshell project? Hmmmmm....and they aren't even officially for sale. I think the answer is to take one of my kids' Kevvie bats over to Graham's house and have a chat about Swedish junkyards and wasted opportunities! |

Funny. I like the electrics, but it may be simpler to do manual on the next car with the door bars going into the door itself. I am also thinking Lexan windows with a release pin for exiting the car in a n accident. After hitting the tree, both doors were jammed, would hate to be stuck in a car with no exit... I did have a window breaker fastened to the center tunnel just in case.

I have mixed feelings on power vs manual. Both can easily have regulator issues on an older car. Electric motors fail but are easier to repair than a manual winder. Electric can have the switches mounted where they are easy to reach, manual knobs go where they go. So probably even up, but Lexan windows...so lets say you are inside and maybe unconsious and the doors are jammed. Your release pins are inside with you, how would rescue attempts be affected? Normal glass windows are easy to break from the outside, Lexan not so much. Plus Lexan may not drop into a dented door.

The way I've done lexan windows in the past have addressed these concerns. The window would fit into the stock window frame seals but the inner sheetmetal of the door was removed. The bottom of the lexan was attached to a couple of tabs by Dzus fasteners. At first on John Lane's car I used butterfly dzus fasteners but when he rolled it through the stumps his codriver Scott got a minor puncture wound in his shoulder from the dzus. After that I used regular flush dzus fasteners and hung washers in each door on a piece of fishing line in case the windows needed to be removed by the occupants. Because there were no lower inner window frames (just the dzus tabs holding the window in place) the window could easily be kicked in from oustside and drop out of the way. |
