WTB: XR4 struts
March 10, 2012 09:26PM
The Merkurian Falcon, my 24 Hours of LeMons car build, needs front struts, and every single one I have except for the JVAB/FoMoSpo 41mm ones are FUBAR. So I need something that's not blown for cheap cheap cheap, since I only have a couple hundred I can spend upgrading the car.

Don't need driveshaft guibo/donut anymore, got a new one cheap on ebay.

I'm in NH.

Thanks!

I may have a set. Let me look in the shed. Those would be free, cost of shipping only. Guibo, buy a new one for a BMW 5 series from the 80's, I think you can get them for $25 on rock auto.

Always had a few thoughts for a lemons XR. First, run low boost. Second, run 2 stock swaybars in the front, piggyback style. Weld them together in the middle, with a flat bar spacer, and connect them together at the arm with something that can slide or pivot a bit.

Dooooood lemme check, I think I can find you the OEM Goetze doughnut for under $20.

Your dear ol' daddie dun't have no Fuckus stuff left over fronts. Aside from the top mounts, they plug right in.

Nope, out of Focus stuff, but that opens up more junkyard possibilities.

I was just going to find some used 300-400 lb front springs and call it...good?

Yeah 400 lb springs will work excellent---on a KYB valved for around 100.

You guys ROCK!!! But the coilovers are gone. Well, he said he still had the struts, but they're blown.

Totally worth a shot, I really appreciate the help.

John, this is shitbox racing, you cobb together the least terrible ride you can for $500 and see what happens. The car came with 600 lb. Hyperco(il?) springs in the rear (tested them), but stock 97 lb springs in the front. So something over stiff in the front would complement the over stiff in the rear...or maybe I just soften the whole mess up and float around the track on stock crap?

I may very well just drill all the blown struts, weld a bung on them, and add motorcycle fork oil and see how long they last. Seems to be a common LeMons trick.

Sean, any luck digging in the shed? If not, I may need to take a ride to Holland Used Auto Parts this week.

Thanks!!
