I've had more semesters in college than K-12. Working on lifelong. Keep those student loans in deferrement for as long as possible.

Yup, same here -- Spent most of the past 10 years doing some grad school of some sort and may take another 2.... My student loan isn't too bad though. Got it down to about $23,000 now at 3% so about $320 per month.

I got a sweet job offer six weeks into grad school. By the end of the 1st year I was making the same as if I had graduated and working 40-60 hours a week. It made it difficult to find a faculty member to work with to do a thesis and finally a bit over a year ago I got offered a assistantship to finish. 1/3 the pay of what I was making but much nicer work week and way more time to really focus on classes. Also got a third publication on my CV this week, "Peripheral blood mononuclear cell gene expression in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" published in next issue of American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology.

Sean. The wiring is definitely not a hold up. In fact, it's technically not even necessary. Getting a long block together and finding the time. We started doing cages less than a year ago, thinking we might do two or three a year. We've done seven and have two cars at shop that have had deposits put down and will be started next week as well as an additional shop car that is looking like it's going to become a Chumpcar for us to go drive and maybe find some additional business. So that's pretty much 100% of my shop time for the next two months. If I can get my thesis written by spring break I'll put a few extra days in though and on the Merkur if it's still around.

Life is about moving forward..the future. Memories are about the past. You could say you are losing money but lots of people with race cars, show cars, street rods and even grocery getters bought new have lost more. Oh well. What does a trip around the world cost? Or a cruise ship? Vacation to Disney Land? How many people put that kind of money up their noses over a year or two...or Secret Service agents on hookers?

Sounds like you are on a good path, may be a bit painful at times but most good things are. Off the Merkur and keep working on life.

I had discussed with the wife and considered offering the whole thing to Sean as long as I could fly out and drive it in occasional rallies.

Thanks Sean. I think it'll be best to just part ways and move forward.
Did find another good local head today though for $250... Just what I don't need. smiling smiley

Have two people that are pretty seriously interested but both are on east coast so add $1k+ to get it out to them.

Ugh. I should never have looked for this spreadsheet...

$22k of wasteful spending here...
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AidvMDG0FXe5dFlBZWl5a1Y0UHBrTTNtM0JrRWdFbnc&usp=sharing

There is damned good reason why we don't keep track of how much we spend on race cars.

Those of us who keep track of such things don't go racing.
