A few years ago I was told by a friend of Pat Richard that he came to BC to snowboard. While here, he "enjoyed" driving his wagon on gravel forest service roads. He had a natural skill for a certain type of driving. The rest is history.

I know Pat and he said his skills were honed by YEARS of driving POS cars up to Whistler and crashing a frightening number of them thru barriers, down ravines aain and again..including one of the most vile POS that I know of the horrible MkI Fiesta..

There is no such thing as "natural talent" for much, least of all driving.
It is a learned thing.... Where the PUSH comes to try to do "better" comes from is impossible to say..
But it isn't a "natural" thing...

I asked the guys working at the shop at Rally Tech or whatever it's called in Houghton if they bought PB blaster by the 55 gallon drum after looking at the bottom of the pickup they had on the lift.
I do not envy ya'll rustyfarians.

copious amounts of PB blaster, heat torch, and a good air impact is a must... ohh and saftey goggles... rust in the eyes stings...

Makes me wish anti-seize was available in gallon sized tubs, like discount peanut butter, every bolt i touch ends up coated in grey b4 i put it back together...

I said when I got back to Sleezattle after 5 years in Boston "If i had had the foresight to buy stock in PB Blaster and Never-Sleeze before I left, i would been a rich man by time i got back from the amount of that I used"
I wanted to find "Family Sized" 5 Gallon buckets on Never-sieze and 55 Gallon drums of PB or similar...

The worse thing was how many bolts and nuts had been brutalized by the savages beforehand so not only were they rusted in they were often 7 or 9 sided polygons, or simply round..

Fawk salt.

My 10-year-old Subaru fucking hates the salt they dump on the roads around here. I'm going to need patch panels for the quarter panels this year. Mass is worse than NH. Vermont doesn't dump nearly as much salt on the roads, but the flatlander transplants keep crashing around Burlington, so who knows how much longer that'll last. I'd move to Vermont, but my accountant advises against it for tax reasons. winking smiley

I grew up in MI, where salt is a major bummer. But the amount of salt they use in Chicago is just insane.

These bolts came out of my well-salted Honder DD.

They don't look that bad compared to the stuff I've snapped on my Legacy....There are more than a couple Merkur bolts and Fastenal and/or Tractor Supply bolts holding critical parts of my DD together.

those nice round ones that need to be touched up with a grinder till you can hammer the next closest sized impact onto the head, just to get it out... trick is letting them cool down a bit, after the grinder, other wise ya just twist the warm head right off... in which case ya shoulda just ground her flat in the first place...

I guess I should've been more clear. The point was that I was amazed the lower twisted bolt came out at all, instead of snapping off. I realized it was deforming, and so I went back and hit it with the torch and shocked it with penetrating oil. Saved me some time with a drill, anyway.
