1984 GTI with 2.0 16V from a later GLI. Have almost all receipts for the car for the last 10 years(since it was assembled with current motor, trans etc) Including full balance and rebuild of the motor as well as timing belt done roughly 20k ago. roughly 65k miles since the motor etc were done. Replaced rear main seal earlier this month, replaced clutch and PP while I was in there with a slightly stiffer pressure plate and another stock clutch disk. This has been a great driver/toy and very reliable. Interior is 95% complete/original but is showing some wear. Paint was a shadetree job 8 years ago and is due for a respray, no dents or dings anywhere (there are rock chips though) No cancer anywhere on the vehicle. Lots of little upgraedes here and there including "I'm not sure who made em" coilover suspension, 4 wheel disk brake conversion, long 5th gear for highway mpgs. Has recaro seats, but the drivers needs love.
Comes with new unused factory suspension, struts and housings (including new springs for the front) assembled and ready to swap for winter months/ suspension maintenance. Also have a set of 1 season old studded snows, and factory manuals for both motor and car. Great reliable driver, needs a fine tooth comb. ODO says 270k- not original as far as I know, actual miles believed to be half that, but all the guages work properly. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 04/03/2014 01:28AM by aj_johnson.

Yup still have this thing. Developed a head gasket leak last week, deciding if I want to do fancy things to the head while it's off or just put it back on and enjoy. Prolly gonna just swap the hg this weekend and call it good. If you want it as is I'll make you a deal, otherwise gimme a call.

Max, you are a smart smart man!
John, shame on you for recommending a mk3 VW! Mk4 with cleaned up wiring is what you would want, or a focus. That's the new fwd golf in my mind. AJ, is Brian ever going to buy your rabbit? I know he was super interested when we were talking at OTR? Want me to convince him a bit more? |

Nothing "wrong" with the MkIV aside from all the normal VW and noirmal generic FWD "any box/finaldrive/diff upgrades cost 4-10 times as much but I am not a fan of the front knuckles with the poke in and clamp style like they use...But fuckit just use "normal" knuckles--make it work... At least they don't have upper shock bolts hanging out in single shear.... John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember!
